Zap
Purpose:
Zero’s Aren’t Permitted (ZAP) has been designed to improve student achievement by requiring all assignments are completed and turned in. The implementation of ZAP will ensure that students stay current with classroom instruction.
How it Works:
When a student is given a homework assignment and fails to complete the assignment by the due date the student will be “ZAPPED”. The student’s planner will be marked to indicate that a ZAP was earned and he/she will report to the ZAP room during the lunch period that same day. If the student earns a ZAP in a class after lunch, he/she may turn in the completed assignment directly to the teacher before 7:45 the next morning and will then be excused from serving ZAP. If this is not done, the student is required to serve ZAP that day. NOTE: The Late Homework Policy applies in regard to grading.
Special Considerations:
All students will participate in the ZAP program. If a child has an IEP or 504 Plan that allows for extended time on assignments, the student will be provided with extended time to work on his/her assignment in ZAP lunches. Any consequence related to ZAP will be determined on a case by case basis, taking into consideration each individual’s plan.
Expectations for the ZAP room:
¨ Arrive promptly (3 tardies = detention)
¨ Bring all needed materials (including planner)
¨ Be respectful of the space
¨ Clean up when through
¨ Work on missing/incomplete work
¨ Remain quiet - raise your hand if you need assistance
ZAP Consequences:
1st – 4th ZAP per class = ZAP logged in planner and student serves ZAP until assignment is complete or 1 week (whichever is shortest)
5th ZAP per class = ZAP logged in planner, student serves ZAP until assignment is complete or 1 week (whichever is shortest), & mandatory parent meeting with teacher and administrator
6th ZAP & up per class = consequence as determined in prior meeting
